“I created these block letters all by myself. At the time, this was the only accessible room that had a proper amount of space, and where people were painting because it had light. You can’t tell now, but when we started painting in this building, it was essentially made up of very dimly-lit small rooms and former offices. There was very little by way of wide open, well-lit spaces – those didn’t appear till they knocked down the dividing walls on the upper floors. So I painted my group’s initials here in block letters, to mark this room as our turf.”

Arone is the founder of the TWE Crew, a collective of graffiti artists created in 1998 and bringing together various people associated with graffiti and street culture. Originally formed in Paris, today the group is present throughout France, particularly in Paris and its suburbs and the “PACA” (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) and Aquitaine regions. Arone covers every aspect of graffiti, legal and illegal. No other artist, surely, has done so much painting in the buildings in Pantin, where he first made his mark in 2007 and which he now considers to be his studio.
