Manyak
First Floor / Size : 310 x 390 / Metal doorway/ Glycero paints and aerosols / 2012
“I chose this doorway because of its rusty metal, and because it had very few tags on it. All it took to get rid of them was a little work with a paint roller and a paint the same colour as the original surface, leaving me with the equivalent of a clean, virgin base. As so often happens, I hadn’t chosen my aerosols to match the medium I’d be working on – so I had to deal with things on the spot. What’s more, once I’d finished I found that my painting wasn’t large enough to stand out properly on that surface, and was a bit bland. I should have brought more cans of brightly-coloured paint. It could do with some more luminous hues. I’m frequently disappointed with the finished versions of my works. That’s what makes me want to go on and do more of them. (Laughs)”

Manyak
Manyak started creating graffiti in 1988. Originally from Essonne, he cut his teeth along the railway lines of that area along with the members of the ELM group. For a while, he specialised in drawing characters before discovering 3D graffiti in the mid-90s. Since then, he has become more of a specialist, concentrating on the creation of floating, non-linear works in which the lettering and background are a good deal less “fixed” than in 2D graffiti. Whenever possible, Manyak paints on virgin media in disused locations. He does not exhibit, painting simply for pleasure.
